I’m Rachel, your Students’ Union President for 2016/17. Before this, I studied Ancient History and History, worked at Starbucks in the Students’ Union, and founded the Feminist Society among a variety of other things! I ran to be SU President because my time at University was really shaped by my experiences with the Students’ Union, from doing a radio show on Galaxy Radio, to being guided through the process of changing course when I wanted to drop out, and I wanted to give something back to the Union that ensured I didn’t just stay at University, but that I did well and enjoyed it.

Being President means I’m in charge of representing all 22000 students at the University of Leicester to the University, and means that most days I’m out there listening to you and feeding that information back to ensure that your voice is heard and that you get the best experience possible! Alongside that, I Chair the Union’s Board of Trustees, oversee all the services the Union provides (including Freshers’ Fortnight!) and co-ordinate our strategy and campaigns. I’m also the lead representative of Leicester SU to the National Union of Students, and represent the interests of Leicester students on their National Executive Council.

This year my priorities are:

  • Campaigning for a Living Wage for all staff members
  • Improving the quality of private rented sector accommodation
  • Giving students the tools to make change

If you want any more information on the Union or my campaigns this year, get in touch at su-president@le.ac.uk, or follow me on Twitter to see what I’m up to @ULSU_President.
