Your Students' Union
Welcome to the University of Leicester, and congratulations on joining us as members of the Students’ Union! Every student here is a member of the SU, which means you get access to loads of things, ranging from societies and sports teams, volunteering opportunities and academic advice, to being guaranteed representation when something isn’t quite right, and having the opportunity to make change to your academic life, to your student life or to national issues like tuition fee increases, housing quality and the environment.
The Union is run by elected student representatives in the interests of students. Alongside the five full-time student officers, we have over 600 student representatives within the Union working to make change on different levels. Being a member of the Union means you have the right to vote in these representatives and even become one yourself! We are also members of the National Union of Students, and send students to represent Leicester students at a variety of national conferences.
Make sure to come and visit the SU when you arrive in Leicester – Freshers’ Fortnight is hosted by us, and this ranges from the nights out to the variety of festivals and fairs in the first week, including Freshers’ Fair, where you can find out more about the Union’s societies and campaigns, as well as picking up a few freebies along the way! Last year we had over 11,000 students visit our Freshers’ Fair and 8,000 students signing up to our 200 societies, so make the most of it, find something you love, and we look forward to meeting you all!
