Despite only being two miles long, Smithdown Road has long been the epicentre of student life here in Liverpool. Over the past couple of years the area has had a new lease of life with great independents opening up, as well as the start of events like the Smithdown Road Festival bringing live music right to your front door.
Here's our top ten spots to grab a bite in the area.
Spitroast – believe the hype, this chicken really is better than Nandos! There’s some great veggie options, like the Superfood Salad and Spring Greens, too!
Naked Lunch - owned by a collective of like-minded individuals Naked Lunch has a chilled atmosphere that’s great for brunch or just a coffee, you can often find live music there too.
Maggie Fu – a family owned business selling Asian street food that's fairly new to the scene but really popular already!
Belzan – a key change that took Smithdown’s restaurants up a notch. Super stylish bar and bistro with an eclectic seasonal menu – one if you’re looking to impress, or just be impressed!
Tribeca – one of the biggest venues in the area with an amazing beer garden, delicious pizzas and showing sport – what more could you want?
Tiger Rock – Asian street food paying homage to traditional street vendors with a super tasty menu - every single plate is insta-ready.
Evil Eye – a ‘beer and burrito shack’ with excellent live music on offer and a little sun trap of a garden in summer. The Halloumi Fries are particular favourites of ours!

A glorious Sunday deserves a spot in a beer garden, don't it?? We're open now, ready to serve the best burrito you will have, and cold beers. Awesome. There's a world cup final on to watch too! #beergarden #smithdownroad #supportindependant #evileyeliverpool #beer #burrito
Loaded – a big old burger bar that only opened a couple of weeks ago but we’ve already seen it full with students. We’re excited to see what they have to offer!
Dafnas Cheesecake Factory – owned by the same wonderful baker since the seventies, Dafnas is a Liverpool staple, and once you’ve tried one of their ten different flavours of cheesecake it is easy to see why!
Handyman Brewery – cool new venue that kept the same front when it was recently converted from a handymans shop – also one of the only places on Smithdown for a dance, which is always a bonus!
Coming soon …
Picnic – This healthy deliver favourite have just bought the space next to Spitroast and we’re can’t wait to see what they bring to the area!
