Moving Out of halls: What should I do with all my stuff?

By BzBarlow 15 Apr 2024

When it's time to move out of your on-campus accommodation and pack up your things, you'll likely find items you no longer need or want to take home with you.

To give you a hand getting rid of things, Heriot-Watt has plenty of solutions to avoid sending it all to landfill.

Some items will be saved and given to new students via the Student Union and the Chaplaincy team, some will go to the British Heart Foundation (BHF) and others will go to The Broomhouse Food Bank

The Heriot-Watt Chaplaincy team will be collecting any pots and pans alongside other items such as drinking glasses, stationery and cutlery, which will all go to new students next year! If you are leaving early and want to donate your crockery and cutlery, please leave them in the kitchen and mark them 'for chaplaincy'.

Take a look below at what and where you can donate any items you don't need or want anymore...

If you're not familiar with any of the charities that you can donate to, here's a quick look at what they're all about...

The Broomhouse Food Bank
They offer free packs of food to families and individuals in crisis. Supported by your donations of non-perishable food, they can make a difference to families living in poverty in our area.

British Heart Foundation
You've probably seen the red banks outside halls - all those donations go into BFH shops around Edinburgh and money made is used to fund research to keep hearts beating and blood flowing.

Remember, anything you can contribute goes a long way to helping others!
